New Daily stitching from Notes from Studio B

2020 Weekly Leaf, week 23, Burr Oak Leaf Series
Eco/botanical print on vintage silk

Daily Collage days 25-29
I've switched it up and am using 5 inch square pieces of recycled cardboard for the base and gel medium to apply papers.

I've gone 21 days without doing a daily stitching project and I missed having it to start my studio time. The daily collages are enjoyable but I missed the stitching. Doing the collages has made me very aware of how much stuff I have tucked away to use someday, so much that it gets overwhelming. While ...

A splash of color and printing weeds from Notes from Studio B

A pack of 10 inch squares in very bright colors became a very bright donation top this week, I do have the backing so it should get quilted soon.

After pulling some weeds I selected some to print (they have to be good for something).

Daily colleges #13-24

Starting tomorrow I'm going to switch it up some and do a different background and a little more complexity . Anyway that's the plan we will see if I can break out of my minimalist approach.

Still here and still stitching from Notes from Studio B

I've been reminded a few times lately that I have been very remiss with my blogging, it's gone from a regular weekly post to a random occasional post. Starting today I'll try to get back to regular, but I'm not promising anything.

I put together six of my weekly leaves, weeks 13-18, and I love how it looks. I had just enough of the stripe fabric in my stash, I had to use it because it went so well with the prints.

SAQA 100 days is now finished, has a backing on it and is waiting ...

Staying Home from Notes from Studio B

Not much new here on the home front, we've been staying home and keeping busy. Lots of yard work to do, so we have been getting outside. I've quilted the five donation quilts that I'd pieced a few weeks ago. This one is my favorite.

Sewing up scraps and odd fabrics from Notes from Studio B

I've spent the last few days in the studio digging through my stuff and sewing odd things together, eventually they will end up as donation quilts for Project Linus. The first one was a large piece of fabric that I had printed many years ago and then didn't know what to do with it. Well, I've cut it up into large tumbling blocks, it's very bright.

The second one started from two pieces of fabric, both printed with a similar deconstructed leaf image. I then added strips of fabric that were close in color to the ...

Catching Up from Notes from Studio B

I have a bit of catching up to do, it's been over two weeks since I've posted. Since we've been sheltering in place and all my normal weekday activities have ceased, I've been loosing track of what day it is. I missed doing my post on the 19th because I didn't realize it was Thursday and then once you skip one post it's easy to skip another. A blog friend emailed  today to check and make sure we were all right, I guess that was the subtle push I needed. (Thanks Norma)

Time For a Change from Notes from Studio B

I spent several days in the past week painting walls; my living room, dining area and stairwell to be exact. It's been on my to do list for way too long, to give you an idea of how long, I bought the paint in April of 2018. The last time the rooms were painted was either 10 or 11 years ago. The art work which I love but am getting a bit tired of looking at was all hung shortly after the last paint job. Newer work hasn't been hung in most spots yet because I want to ...

Slowly getting back into the groove from Notes from Studio B

I did spend some time playing in the studio this week, of note, I altered some older cyanotype prints that had been done on colored fabric.
This is how they started.

They were then soaked in TSP(trisodium phosphate, a cleaning agent) to remove some of the color.
Then they took a bath in strong black tea.
Now the colors work better for my Burr Oak series.

Trying to get back to work from Notes from Studio B

I've been having a tough time getting back to creating in the studio, I'm doing my usual stitching but I'm not feeling the usual enthusiasm. Maybe I need a longer break, or I just haven't recovered from the break I took. At any rate this is what I've done this week.

Thailand from Notes from Studio B

I'm back home after spending two wonderful weeks in Thailand. A few of the highlights were an indigo dying class, a Thai cooking class(yum), a day playing with elephants,

lots of temples,

lots of Buddha's,

fresh food markets,
beach time on an island,
exotic fruits,

time with my daughter and granddaughter, and much more. It's taken me a few days to recover from jet lag after our 30 hour journey home which included a quick tour of Seoul, Korea during a 12 hour layover.

Stitching was minimal on this trip.

A few new projects and an upcoming trip from Notes from Studio B

I never got to a doing a blog post last week and I'll be leaving for a couple of weeks later this week, so you get one post to cover it all.

I've made 2 donation tops, the quilting will have to wait till I get back.

The final outside stitching and facing were put onto the tree.

On February 1, SAQA is starting another 100 days project. I'm ready to go and will have several pieces with me to stitch on my travels. I started with a piece of silk that I had screen printed about ...

Rainbows, A Tree and An Oak Leaf from Notes from Studio B

My tree is stitched and now I need to add the white stitching around the outer edge and the facing.

My original plan had been to stitch a background but when I finished the tree it felt complete. I posted this on Instagram and asked if it needed a background and the overwhelming response was leave it alone. So my gut feeling that it was complete was right. I'm very pleased with how it came out, especially after struggling to get it started.

Another donation quilt top from Notes from Studio B

Before my hubby spent time in the hospital I ordered 2 packs of 5" squares, then while killing time on the internet when he was in the hospital I saw a pattern  that looked interesting and was easy to remember. The fabric was waiting for me when we got back home and I've been slipping into the studio when possible and now have the top done. It will be a donation quilt.

While trying to get into a festive mood, I dug into the back of my closet and pulled out a shirt that I decorated over 20 years ...

Stitching a Tree from Notes from Studio B

A short quick post this week, it's been a little stressful here but some stitching has been done.

2019 Weekly Leaf, week 50(already!)

SolarFast on silk

2019 Daily Stitching #5

I'm stitching a tree. This time of year I get a tiny bit obsessive about bare naked trees, I take pictures, lots of pictures, but this year I decided to actually stitch one.
This is the sketch I drew.
So far I've outlined the trunk and main branches.
There's a whole lot more stitching to do and I'm not even sure how I'm ...

Another Project Done from Notes from Studio B

I would like to Thank all those who left messages of support for my husbands surgery. It's over, we are back home, there were a few problems but he got through it and is doing fairly well. He has about 4-6 weeks for recovery and I can see an improvement everyday. Next step is in 10 days we go back to Boise for another test and hopefully catheter removal, step by step to get healthy again. Cancer sure changes your life. This was the view from his 6th floor hospital window, the bear sculpture on the roof of the ...

A Slow Start to Daily Stitching #5 from Notes from Studio B

This was a busy week, I had seven family members here for four days so my stitching time was minimal. We had a great time even though five of our group didn't make it because of weather. We did the annual Turkey Trot 5k on Thanksgiving morning, with the usual coffee stop on the way home.

On Friday morning instead of Black Friday shopping we stayed home and created.
